Who we are

Learn with Akada ("Akada", "we", "us") is operated by First Class Scholars Academy Ltd., Lagos, Nigeria. This policy explains what personal information we collect through the Akada mobile app and learnwithakada.com, why we collect it, and the choices you have. We handle personal data in line with the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023.

Information we collect

Information you give us

• Account details: your name, email address, username, phone number and password (stored only in encrypted, hashed form).
• If you sign in with Google: your Google account ID, name, email and profile photo.
• Study profile: the exam you are preparing for, your exam date, subjects, school name, learning style and the challenges you tell us about.
• Content you add: profile photos, notes, comments, and — for tutors — the videos, lessons and documents you upload.
• Messages you send to our support team.
• Tutors and agents: the details we need to pay you, such as bank account information.

Information created as you use Akada

• Learning activity: quiz, CBT, diagnostic and challenge answers, scores, time spent per question, streaks, rankings, bookmarks and study plans.
• Purchase records: the plan you bought, the amount, dates and payment reference. Card details are entered on Paystack's checkout and are never seen or stored by Akada.
• Device information: app version, device type and a push-notification token if you allow notifications.
• Referral codes you share or use.

Permissions on your phone

The app asks for your camera, photo library and microphone only when you choose to add a photo or record a video, and for your location only when you use a location-based feature. You can turn these off at any time in your phone's settings.

How we use your information

• To create and secure your account and sign you in.
• To run diagnostics, find your weak topics, predict your score and build your study plan.
• To show leaderboards and the Wall of Wins. Your name and score may be visible to other students there.
• To process payments and give you access to the plan you bought.
• To pay tutors, agents and monthly reward winners.
• To send you verification codes, reminders and notifications you have turned on.
• To answer your support requests and improve Akada.
• To prevent fraud and cheating, and to meet our legal obligations.

We do not sell your personal information.

Who we share it with

We share information only with service providers that help us run Akada, and only what they need:

• Paystack — to process payments and payouts.
• Google — if you choose to sign in with Google, and for maps and location search.
• Cloudinary — to store and deliver photos, videos and documents.
• Expo — to deliver push notifications and app updates.
• Our hosting and email providers — to run our servers and send emails.

We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect the safety of our users. Some of these providers store data outside Nigeria; where they do, we rely on appropriate safeguards.

Students under 18

Many Akada students are secondary-school students. If you are under 18, please use Akada with the knowledge of a parent or guardian. Parents or guardians who believe their child has given us information without consent can contact us and we will help.

How long we keep it

We keep your information while your account is active. When you delete your account we remove your name, email, username, phone number, password, Google link, profile photo and school name, sign you out everywhere and deactivate the account. We may keep payment records for as long as tax and accounting law requires, and anonymous learning statistics that no longer identify you.

Your rights and choices

• See and update your profile details in the app at any time.
• Turn notifications on or off in the app or your phone's settings.
• Ask us for a copy of your information, or to correct it.
• Delete your account in the app (Profile → Settings → Delete account) or on our delete account page.
• Complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission if you are unhappy with how we handle your data.

Security

We protect your information with encrypted connections, hashed passwords and one-time codes for sensitive actions. No system is perfectly secure, so please keep your password private.

Changes and contact

We may update this policy. When we make important changes we will tell you in the app or by email, and update the date above.
